Introduction to the Crosman Ratcatcher 2250

The Crosman 2250 Ratcatcher is based on the successful Crosman 2240 Co2 pistol. Three models are available – the Standard, XL and Buntline – each with slightly longer barrels and increased power output as a result. Only available in .22 calibre, each is based on the same single shot bolt action Co2 platform and has a plastic skeleton stock..

About Crosman

Unlike many other companies that can claim a near 100 year heritage, Crosman was founded as an airgun company rather than a maker of bullet rifles. Formed in 1923 in New York, the company is one of the largest manufacturers in the world and includes the Benjamin brand, which it acquired in 1991. In latter years, following its acquisition by an investment group, the company has expanded to include paintball equipment as well as a range of sporting optics.

Crosman Ratcatcher 2250 Review

Current models are made with a steel breech and bolt which operates the single shot mechanism. Pulling back the bolt reveals a port into which a .22 pellet is placed before returning the bolt. Any stiffness usually disappears with use and the set up is simple but effective and reliable. All Ratcatcher models take a single 12g Co2 bulb. To insert, a screw in cap at the front of the action is removed. The bulb is dropped in nipple first. Screwing the cap back on pierces the Co2 bulb, allowing the gas to escape under pressure into the chamber. Expect around 30 shots per Co2 bulb. There is a simple but effective cross bolt safety catch and the trigger, whilst rudimentary, is clean enough. The plastic skeleton stock is comfortable and provides good alignment to use either the open sights or a scope that can be fitted to a dovetail rail.

Crosman Ratcatcher 2250 XL

The XL and Buntline models also have a ½ inch UNF thread to accept a silencer. At moderate distances of 15 to 20 yards, the Ratcatcher is acceptably accurate and powerful enough to control small pests – as the name suggests. However, as with all Co2 guns, power outputs, and therefore accuracy, will be affected by cold weather conditions.
