The Pard NV008S and Pard NV008S LRF are replacements for the ‘P’ models and broadly similar in many regards although there are some notable upgrades.
As a digital day/night scope, they replace traditional glass optics and are aimed at those who wish to use the same rifle to shoot during the day and in the dark using the infrared capabilities. The daytime colour mode is exceptionally good, albeit still a slight compromise on good glass.
Much lighter and more compact than most of its rivals, the Pard NV008S / LRF is ideal for hunting and pest control at night. The integrated IR torch provides plenty of illumination at 12 ft/lbs airgun ranges, though if you plan to shoot with FAC air rifles or rimfire at longer distances you will benefit from an additional, more powerful IR torch. As a close to zero eye relief scope, the Pards are not
suitable for recoiling rifles.
The key differentiator between the two models is the laser range finder (LRF) on the Pard NV008S LRF. Not only does this provide a calculation of distance to your intended target in metres or yards, it operates in conjunction with a ballistic calculator function. Having entered some details about set up and ammunition, the ballistic calculator will, at the press of a button, provide a revised aim point for the distance you intend shooting over.
The LRF model is ideal when shooting in the dark in environments you are not familiar with when judging distance is doubly hard. If you plan shooting around barns or farm buildings and know the distances involved, the non LRF/ballistic calculator function may be good enough.
